Area
8 under LWUA's water supply development geographical
subdivision is comprised by the Southern and
Central Mindanao regions.
Southern Mindanao (Region XI) consists of six
(6) provinces, namely: Davao, Davao del Sur,
Davao Oriental, South Cotabato, Sarangani and
Sultan Kudarat. The two highly urbanized cities
in the regions are Davao City and General Santos
City.
Central Mindanao (Region XII) covers the provinces
of Lanao del Norte and Cotabato. Iligan City,
Marawi City and Cotabato City are the major
cities in the region with Iligan being the most
urbanized city among the three.
Water
supply development
There are a total of 114 municipalities falling
within LWUA's jurisdiction in Area 8 of which
49 have already formed water districts. The
remaining 65 municipalities have yet to establish
their own water districts even as some of these
places are likely to organize their respective
rural waterworks and sanitation associations
or RWSAs.
A
total of P793,636,113.00 have been availed of
by water districts in Area-8 out of the P1,213,713,607.00
in loans committed to the same by LWUA. Total
investments in the area amount to P1,261,313,607.00
with 142 water supply improvement projects having
been implemented.
There are 239,649 water service connections
in Area-8 serving a population of 1,389,964.
Water sources in the area are deepwells, shallow
wells, springs and dug wells. Non-revenue water
(NRW) stands at an average of 25% while collection
efficiency of the water districts is at 84.22%
average.
The established and highly acknowledged leaders
among water districts in Area-8 are the Davao
City WD, Kidapawan WD, Tagum WD, Cotabato WD
and Sultan Kudarat WD. Water districts in the
area all members of the South-Central Mindanao
Water Information Council (SOCEMWIC), the most
active WD association in Regions XI and XII.
