the keynote address during the two-day LWUA-sponsored watershed
management workshop held at Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
Participants and delegates to the recently-concluded National
Summit on Watershed Management led by the Local Water Utilities
Administration (LWUA), the Department of Environment and
Natural Resources (DENR), the various water districts, LGUs
and NGOs signed the so-called Puerto Princesa Protocol declaring
their commitment to protect and conserve the Philippines'
vital life-supporting watersheds through partnerships and
joint undertakings. Among the principal signatories are
Edgardo Demayo representing LWUA; Jesus Javier representing
DENR; Stella Anima, chair of the Watershed and Environment
Committee of the Philippine Association of Water Districts
(PAWD), general managers Alfredo Silva and Roberto Dormendo
and board member Ralph Uy representing many of the supporting
individual water districts in the country.
