Cabuyao,
Laguna---A P125-million project for the upgrading and
expansion of the water supply system of this town to be
funded and technically assisted by the Local Water Utilities
Administration (LWUA) will be formally launched in a groundbreaking
ceremony this Friday, January 29, 2010.
Jointly
leading the ground breaking rites are LWUA Board Chairman
Prospero A. Pichay, Jr., Cabuyao Mayor Isidro Hemedes, Jr.
and the officials of the Cabuyao Water District (CWD) headed
by Chairman Adel Chung and interim General Manager Engr.
Jun de Castro, also of LWUA.
The
project will be funded by LWUA with a P100 million loan
coming from the LWUA Water and Energy (WE) Bank and another
P25 million fund from the national government through the
Non-LWUA Initiated Fund program.
Once
completed, the project will benefit residents in ten barangays
of Cabuyao, namely Bigaa, Butong, Marinig, Pulo, San Isidro,
Banlic, Mamatid, Banay-banay, Gulod and Baclaran where 75
percent of the town population lives.
The
project will involve the development of water sources, construction
of pumping and water storage facilities, installation of
transmission and distribution pipelines and individual household
connections.
Currently,
the Cabuyao Water District is just covering 5 percent of
the town population with its existing 1,900 water service
connections.
With
the implementation and completion of the project, an additional
30,000 families in the ten barangays mentioned stand to
benefit from expansion of the water system and services
which will assure the supply of adequate, safe and affordable
water on 24/7 basis.
The
project is part of LWUA's ongoing massive water supply program
intended to modernize the provincial water supply systems
and improve the access to clean drinking water especially
of the poor and still waterless communities in pursuit of
the PGMA Administration's vision and priority legacy program
on water.
