LWUA vows to end Iloilo water woes

The Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) has proposed an P800 million project for the construction of a modern water treatment plant that will tap the Jalaur River, the biggest surface water source in Iloilo province, as among the measures to solve the perennial water shortage problem in Iloilo City and nearby towns. LWUA Board of Trustees Chairman Prospero "Butch" A. Pichay Jr. (center, left photo) made this known in a dialogue meeting with water district general managers and some local government officials of Panay led by GM Remus Braganza of Dumangas-Barotac Nuevo Water District (left, right photo) and Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Trenas (2nd from right, right photo) held at the Sarabia Manor Hotel in Iloilo City. Vast areas in Iloilo have been experiencing water shortage due to the depletion of water resources on account of forest denudation, saltwater intrusion and the increasing domestic as well as industrial water demands. Dumangas Mayor Ronald Golez and New Lucena Mayor Leizel Sevilla also attended the dialogue.
