The House Committee on Public Works chaired by Rep. Rogaciano Mercado (Southern Leyte) recently conducted a hearing on the measure authored by House Deputy Speaker Rep. Eric Singson (Ilocos Norte) seeking further amendments to PD 198 or the Provincial Water Utilities Act of 1973 to authorize needed increase in the capitalization as well as domestic and foreign borrowing ceilings of the Local Water Utilities Administration to sustain the government's water supply development projects in the countryside. LWUA Administrator Orlando C. Hondrade and acting Senior Deputy Administrator Daniel I. Landingin led the agency's panel in presenting the merits of the Singson bill which the 93-man House Public Works Committee agreed to cosponsor on the motion of Rep. Rodolfo Valencia of Oriental Mindoro.
