30 million trees in three years

Local Water Utilities Administration Board Chairman Prospero A. Pichay Jr. (left) speaks on the agency's plan to lead, in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and local water districts in the country, the planting of 30 million trees in three years starting this year to help preserve vital watershed areas and assure continuous sources and supply of freshwater. He advocated the planting in many areas of bamboo which, he said, retrieves greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide more efficiently than ordinary trees. Chairman Pichay was the guest of honor and speaker at the 3rd Tarlac Water Summit organized and hosted by the Tarlac City Water District (TCWD) in conjunction with TCWD's 35th anniversary celebration recently.
